Federal Funding Eliminated for the RC&D Program for FY 2011
On April 15, 2011, federal funding was eliminated for the RC&D Program. Many Councils, including Castleland RC&D, were fortunate enough to have a full-time Coordinator through the Natural Resources Conservation Service to help lead and direct RC&D efforts. Castleland RC&D continues to operate regardless of the loss. Click here to read more from the National Association of Resource Conservation & Development Councils.

Castleland RC&D Receives Grant for Navajo Mountain Trading Post Feasibility Study.

The Castleland RC&D Council was recently awarded a grant from the National Association of RC&D Councils to conduct a feasibility study on the renovation and re-opening of the Navajo Mountain trading post. The trading post operated for many years but closed in 1990. As a very historic and scenic area visited by many, local residence see the possible renovation as a promising economic development opportunity. The first oiled road to the area was recently completed which is expected to increase tourism. Locals are also hoping the trading post will serve as a central starting point for tours of scenic areas nearby.
Castleland RC&D has previously been involved in economic development projects near Navajo Mountain, including providing Churro sheep, fleece, spinning wheels, and wool carders to local sheep breeders, spinners and weavers.
